With the impact of climate change becoming more and more apparent all over the globe, societal pressure on providers in all industries is mounting. Decisive steps are being taken in the fight to reduce energy and water consumption in the ambition to avoid general waste and in the innovation on how to recycle valuable resources.

These trends do not remain unattended in the hospitality industry. A growing number of hotels are rising up to the challenge of running a sustainable business. However, the required changes need to go far beyond simply swapping plastic for paper straws, or nudging clients into reusing their towels to save clean water.

At Prime Suites, we embrace sustainability as an integral part of our business model. For us sustainability is extended to also include environmental, social and governance topics by formulating a green strategy for long-term success, connecting and investing in local communities and by embracing strategies of diversity and inclusion.

To offer our future guests a luxury stay without reservations, we designed a carbon-neutral, 90% waste-free resort.

Our approach is geared around four pillars:

Reduce fossil energy and waste;

Offer responsible food and beverage;

Offset remaining emissions;

Strive for inclusion and economic empowerment.

REDUCE FOSSIL ENERGY AND WASTE

In envisioning the resort, our architects and designers have melded the latest eco principles with the highest standards of luxury. The design captures the ocean cool breeze while a central water element keeps the villas cool. This ultimately reduces the need for air conditioning.

Since the resort is located at the equator and in the windiest area of Brazil, renewable energy sources, particularly solar and wind power technologies will be leveraged. The energy consumption will be further reduced and closely monitored through energy-smart houses and efficient appliances. Electric golf carts will provide emission-free transportation around the resort.

This will be complemented by solid waste management activities.

And because green feels good, our design brings plants inside the buildings to create calm, relaxed and healthier environments.

RESPONSIBLE FOOD AND BEVERAGE

We believe that all food should be good, clean and fair. Traceability and transparency are our guiding principles. Farm to table and organically sourced gastronomy is an aspirational goal for us. Utilization of regionally sourced food will allow our our chef and kitchen team to establish direct relationships with the producers of each item on our guests’ plate.

OFFSETTING REMAINING EMISSIONS

Guests will be given the chance to offset CO2 emissions of their flights by supporting our Prime Suite reforestation project, make voluntary donations to reforestation projects in the Amazonia and support shortlisted sustainable projects which help develop, protect and conserve natural ecosystems.

INCLUSION AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

We are committed to protecting the culture and heritage of the region by investing in the development of the local community. Our strategy is based on three pillars: diversity, education, inclusion and economic empowerment.
